Whispers of His Power – FEBRUARY 15
1 Pet. 3.19: He went and preached unto the spirits in prison.
1 Pet. 4.6 (RV): For unto this end was the gospel preached even to the dead
If the scribes and Pharisees and the rulers of the people could have seen what our Lord was doing on Saturday (their sabbath) how surprised they would have been. No one tells us anything of that day’s work except Peter, and no one could have told him of it but our Lord Himself. Was it not just like His love to tell this wonderful secret to the one who had grieved Him? Could He have done anything more comforting than to trust him like that? For truly it was a wonderful secret, and as Peter was allowed to tell it to us we can ponder it and try to understand it.
That day was not spent in rest after the terrible Friday. Our Lord went to the worst of the people who were ‘in prison’ those who had refused to listen to Noah and whose lives had been so wicked that there had to be a Flood. His love went out to them and He hastened to them as soon as He was free from the bonds of the body. And so right on past death we see Him always the same, loving, serving, seeking and saving the lost.
To our Lord, rest was not self-pleasing ease. To serve was His chosen rest.
What about us?
oooOOOooo
