In the Franciscan community we are called to ‘sit lightly’ on the things of the earth. One reason is to help us not be possessed by our possessions. Another may be to help us live quiet lives so that we can hear the song of praise sung by Mother Earth.
Because faith is such a personal and intimate experience and we cherish our own ways of worship it is all to easy to belittle the worship of others. We are required to be humble and diligent in prayer rather than ‘holier than thou’
We learn to praise God best when we are in harmony with others who also desire to praise God
Every so often a hymn comes along that says ‘Yes!’ to all your questions about faith and the ‘whichness of the why’. This is mine.
Some of us have a ‘Damascus Road Experience” when we can point to a particular time of ‘Conversion’. Others have been nurtured in the faith from the cradle and have always known themselves held by God. All of us need to look for daily moments of turning away from ourselves and towards God
