It seems that after all of the long journey from Bethlehem to Egypt, Nazareth to Galilee, Jerusalem to Golgotha, we finally end up where we began. ‘Do not be afraid!’ But this time the angels and our risen Lord provide an antidote for our fear. For all of our fears.
Believing is not about seeing things…
Believing is about us, you and I, kneeling in front of the risen wounded Christ. It is about being brave enough to know that the next words we will say, and the words by which we will lead our lives, are these and these alone. ‘My Lord and my God!’
John reminds us with his final few verses, in the culmination of his telling of the Good News, that the Gospel is not a case of ‘seeing is believing’ but, instead, in the words of our Beloved it is a case of ‘believing is not seeing’:
