Come Rest, Come Play, Come Turn Away

Tune: Deus Tuorum Militum [8888]
(Awake, Awake, Fling off the Night)

Come rest, come play, come turn away,
put to one side your cares today.
For work will wear and tire you out,
even the faithful must rest awhile.

But what is this? the sick still follow,
the hungry cry, the lonely sigh.
Where can there be time to stand still,
when people ev’rywhere are in need?

A shepherd’s care can know no bounds,
tending the flock has no set hours.
Sheep must be fed, lambs comforted,
and truth be taught to all who come.

Rest not, nor play, nor turn away,
your burden carry yet awhile.
For as we serve and tend the flock
our Shepherd smiles and says ‘well done’!
