Being and Doing – 19 December – Noble Time

THOUGH we fail indeed

You, I, a score of such weak workers…

He Fails never.

If He cannot work by us

He will work over us.

E. B. BROWNING

THE issue of your work is not of the slightest consequence.   Whether you succeeded or not is of no moment whatever, that was in My hands, not in yours.   But the spirit in which you set about it, the diligence, the cheerfulness, the earnestness with which you obeyed, what was that?’

Bishop TEMPLE

MAN considereth the deeds, but God weigheth the intentions.

THOMAS KEMPIS

A NOBLE aim,

Faithfully kept, is as a noble deed;

In Whose pure sight all virtue doth succeed.

WORDSWORTH

oooOOOooo

These quotes are from ‘Being and Doing’ A selection of helpful thoughts from various authors arranged for daily reading.

Collected by Constance M Whishaw and first published in 1908 for members of the Being and Doing Guild whose object is to do all they can for the relief of suffering and misery.

Most of the writers are 19th Century Christians from Britain and Europe who were committed to living their faith through deeds as well as words – Being AND Doing.

For many years these words have kept me company and encouraged me on the journey of faith.  I hope they will encourage others also.
