Being and Doing – 20 December – Learning from Failure
O, THERE are some who want to get away from all their past; who, if they could, would fain begin all over again. But you must learn, you must let God teach you, that the only way to get rid of your past is to get a future out of it. God will waste nothing.
PHILLIPS BROOKS
NO man’s work is a failure, unless he himself is a failure.
Bishop WALSHAM HOW
SO but thou strive, thou soon shalt see
Defeat itself is victory.
A.H. CLOUGH
I’M PROOF against that word “failure.” I’ve seen behind it. The only failure a man ought to fear, is failure in cleaving to the purpose he sees to be best.
GEORGE ELIOT

These quotes are from ‘Being and Doing’ A selection of helpful thoughts from various authors arranged for daily reading.
Collected by Constance M Whishaw and first published in 1908 for members of the Being and Doing Guild whose object is to do all they can for the relief of suffering and misery.
Most of the writers are 19th Century Christians from Britain and Europe who were committed to living their faith through deeds as well as words – Being AND Doing.
For many years these words have kept me company and encouraged me on the journey of faith. I hope they will encourage others also.
