Being and Doing – 26 December – Rising out of Failure
WHEN you make a mistake, don’t look back at it long. Take the reason of the thing into your own mind, and then look forward. Mistakes are lessons of wisdom… The Past cannot be changed. The Future is yet in our power.
HUGH WHITE
THE greatest hero is perhaps the man who does his very best and signally fails, and yet is not embittered by his failure. A life here in which you fail of every end you seek, yet which disciplines you for a better, is assuredly not a failure.
ONE who never turned his back, but marched breast forward,
Never doubted clouds would break,
Never dreamed, though right were worsted, wrong would triumph,
Held we fall to rise, are baffled to fight better,
Sleep to wake.”

These quotes are from ‘Being and Doing’ A selection of helpful thoughts from various authors arranged for daily reading.
Collected by Constance M Whishaw and first published in 1908 for members of the Being and Doing Guild whose object is to do all they can for the relief of suffering and misery.
Most of the writers are 19th Century Christians from Britain and Europe who were committed to living their faith through deeds as well as words – Being AND Doing.
For many years these words have kept me company and encouraged me on the journey of faith. I hope they will encourage others also.
