Whispers of His Power – AUGUST 1

Ps. 31.19:  Oh how great is Thy goodness, which Thou hast laid up for them that fear Thee;  which Thou hast wrought for them that trust in Thee before the sons of men!

Is not this a simply delightful pot of manna?  Delitzsch has an enlarging word on the meaning of the Hebrew noun translated goodness.  It means the sum of good which God has treasured up for the constant and ever-increasing use and enjoyment of His saints.

For years I lost the comfort of the promises specially spoken to saints, because I knew that I was miles from being one.  So I passed the blessings on to others, feeling they didn’t and couldn’t have anything to do with me.  But one day suddenly I saw that the love of God has an amazing power, for Romans 4.17 tells us that God calleth those things which be not as though they were.

So let the least of us fear not, but with what Delitzsch calls ‘adoring admiration and triumphant certainty’ worship Him, saying, ‘Oh how great is Thy goodness, and how great is Thy beauty.  How eternal Thy love, O my Lord and my God.’
