1 Pet. 4.1:  Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind.

When Peter wrote that, he must have remembered the hour when he was not armed with his Lord’s brave and patient mind.  He did not refer to his fall.  He never did refer to it so far as we know, yet the memory and the pain of it seem to underlie all his writings.

There is no such thing for a child of God as a lost pain, not even the pain of sin.  Our discouragements and failures, even our sins (because of what they teach us of the precious blood of Christ) can be turned to help for others.

Many, O Lord my God, are Thy wonderful works which Thou hast done, and Thy thoughts which are to us-ward (Ps.40.5).  Who but our blessed Lord Jesus could have had such a thought as this?  Who but He would have said about the poor broken fragments of our lives, ‘Gather up the fragments… that nothing be lost? (John 6.12) O Lord, our dear Lord, ‘There is no one like Thee’.
