Mountaintop or dark valley, bright summer day or deepest night, there is no-one else to go to, no-one else to guide us, no-one else to feed us, no-one else to hold us.
‘Thou, O Christ, art all I want;
More than all in Thee I find:’
When I was small I used to think that, if I wanted very much to do a thing, that thing was probably wrong. And if I didn’t want to do it, it was probably right….
How much easier it would be if we knew when hearts that are holding out against the Lord would yield, or when some private trial of our own would pass.
Is it not wonderful to think that we may give joy to the Writer of our Book by asking Him to open it to us?
At last I found help in remembering who was in charge of the storehouse. The One in charge knows all that I don’t know. It is He, then, who chooses the meat, now for this one, now for that, and I have only to pass it on.

For this Christmas, for our Last Christmas, and especially for that final Christmas when we will sing in tune with heaven.
We live because Christ was born amongst us.
We can depart in peace because Christ came to live among us.
There was a time when it was usual to draw a sharp line between religious and worldly things. That time has happily gone by. We all acknowledge more or less that all life is one.
