Being and Doing – 7 September – Simplicity
With each returning morning,
I cast old things away;
Life’s journey lies before me.
My prayer is for to-day.
With each returning morning,
I cast old things away;
Life’s journey lies before me.
My prayer is for to-day.
WE mustn’t be in a hurry to fix and choose our own lot, we must wait to be guided.
THE little worries which we meet each day
May lie as stumbling blocks across our way,
Or we may make them stepping-stones to be
Of grace, O Lord, to Thee.
…that which God doth touch and own
Cannot for less be told.
I ASK thee for a thoughtful love,
Through constant watching wise,
To meet the glad with joyful smiles,
And wipe the weeping eyes,
A heart at leisure from itself,
To soothe and sympathise.
WHOSO neglects a thing which he suspects he ought to do, because it seems to him too small a thing, is deceiving himself;
WE are too fond of our own will. We want to be doing what we fancy mighty things; but the great point is, to do small things, when called to them, in a right spirit.
All worldly joys go less
To the one joy of doing kindnesses.
HE IS the best teacher of others who is best taught himself:
‘It is difficult enough to keep the Ten Commandments,’ he would say, ‘without making an eleventh in every direction.’
