Being and Doing – 22 October – The Kingdom of Heaven is Within You
Nothing can bring you peace but the triumph of principles.
Nothing can bring you peace but the triumph of principles.
If we reduce our faith to a matter of which coins belong to which part of our life we run the risk of separating our life into sacred and secular. We are called to be a holy people every moment of our lives not only on Sundays.
Religious observances of every kind must be the natural expression of the heart, or else, being untrue, they produce habitual hypocrisy.
RELIGION consists, not in knowledge, but in a holy life.
PURE religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
…men grew gradually into the blessed belief that a lowly heart and a contrite spirit – these, and these only – are the sacrifices acceptable to God.
O LORD and Master of us all;
Whate’er our name and sign,
We own Thy sway, we hear Thy call.
We test our lives by Thine.
Heaven and earth are not so far apart.
LET US, then, learn that we can never be lonely or forsaken in this life. Shall they forget us because they are ‘made perfect’? Shall they love us the less because they now have power to love us more?
