Listen to the Prophet’s Warning

Tune: Cross of Jesus [8787]
(Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus)

Listen to the Prophet’s warning,
pay no heed to those who err,
for in turning from the Lord’s way,
you may grief and pain incur.

Make no hasty oath or promise,
(save to do all God commands).
Be the first to reject man’s praise,
find a humbler way to lead.

Herod loved the Baptist’s preaching;
longed to follow in his path.
Pride and ego was his downfall,
do not walk this way of shame.

To the Prophet’s call be faithful.
Turn again, repent, be cleaned.
Then in faithful imitation,
make a pathway for our King.
