Whispers of His Power – MAY 2
1 Cor. 15.31: I die daily.
2 Cor. 11.28: That which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.
‘The Beloved clothed Himself in the garments of His Lover that he might be His companion in glory for ever. So the Lover desired to wear crimson garments daily, that his dress might be like that of his Beloved’ (Ramon Lull).
Sometimes we are tempted to be surprised, as though some strange things happened unto us, because of the ‘crimson garment daily’. For some there is the care that comes daily, the care about the souls of others. This is part of the fellowship of His sufferings. For some there is the daily assault of temptation, the suffering of being tempted.
‘Why cannot there be a little respite? If there is not one thing there is always another.’ That is how we feel and it is true. It always has been true. I die daily.
To Ramon Lull, who lived more than 600 years ago, crimson meant suffering. He did not ask that he might wear the crimson garment sometimes, but always. He wanted to be willing to die daily, ‘that his dress might be like that of his Beloved’.
He worked among the Muslims of North Africa, was banished, returned and was stoned to death.
