Whispers of His Power – JUNE 28

Eph. 3.19-20:  God… is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think.

‘Few suspect what God would do in their souls, if only they would let Him do it.’  That word was fulfilled in the life of the one who wrote it.  When St Ignatius had to face death by torture he said:  ‘Let me be given to the wild beasts, for through them I can attain unto God.  I am God’s wheat, and I am ground by the wild beasts that I may be found the pure bread of Christ.’

It is one thing to face pain when it is not near but some distance off and there is just a hope that it may not have to be.  It is quite another to face it when it is near and there is no escape from it.  It was near to that old man, and it was terrific.  And then those who looked on saw what God had done in a soul that was wholly yielded up to Him.

How ashamed such a story makes us.  If we have failed in the trifles of life, the little trials that are sometimes allowed to come to us, it can only be because we have not let God do all He would in our souls if He had full right of way.
