Whispers of His Power – JULY 21

Isa. 49.4:  Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain:  yet surely my judgment is with the Lord, and my work (or, my reward) with my God.,

The second clause of that verse can strengthen us when we are discouraged.  The Speaker is our Lord Himself, who was tempted in all points like as we are – even in this point.  He is touched with the feeling of our infirmities, and is able to succour us who are tempted.

Look at the summing up of all in Philippians 2.16, which Way renders thus: So shall I exult in anticipation of the Day of Messiah’s coming, in the thought that I have not run my race for a phantom prize, nor toiled for an elusive wage.

Lay these glorious words in the storehouse of memory, so that when the devil comes as he came to our Lord and has come and will come to all His followers, he may find you prepared.  And should he say, ‘Yes, but you are not St Paul’, meet him with another word from the same letter (2.13):  For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.  Alleluia!  For it is God.
