2 Tim. 1.12:  I know whom I have believed.

Isa. 12.2:  I will trust and not be afraid.

Gen. 22.5:  And Abraham said unto his young men…  I and the lad will go yonder and worship and come again to you.

Heb. 11.19:  Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead.

I know whom I have believed.  I will trust and not be afraid.  I know …  I will.  It is good to use difficult circumstances to prove the peace-giving power of these words.

This is what Abraham did when he calmly told his young men to stay with the ass, and that he and Isaac would return.  God had said years before to Abraham, ‘In Isaac shall thy seed be called’ (Gen. 21.12).  He must have held fast to that promise for he was certain that something beyond human belief and experience would happen if necessary.  He believed that God was able even to raise Isaac from the dead.  So he must have said to himself as he walked up the hillside:  ‘I know whom I have believed…  I will trust and not be afraid.’  I know:  I will.

The end of that glorious I know verse is strength and peace and comfort.  For all to whom has been committed the care of souls, they are golden words that lead straight to the peace of God.  I am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him, or as the RV margin says, that which He hath committed unto me (2 Tim. 1.12).

He is able. I know. I will trust.
