Whispers of His Power – APRIL 20

Whispers of His Power – APRIL 20

John 6.6:  He Himself knew what He would do.

It is interesting to compare the two miracles of feeding the multitude.  In the feeding of the five thousand (John 6.5-13) the multitude was apparently part of a pilgrim-caravan.  The food was given soon, and help was not far off.  It might have been found in the villages and the country round about.

The feeding of the four thousand was quite a different matter.  The people were gathered from a Gentile region;  they had continued for three days before they were fed;  there was no help near.  There was no question of finding help in villages.  The place was a wilderness (Mark 8.1-9).

Westcott wrote:  ‘Our situation, we think, is peculiarly difficult.  Temptations are many and powerful.  There is no quarter to which we can turn for immediate help.  But let us not doubt.  The sense of our need is the condition of God’s help.  He will not remove our wants but He will satisfy them.  He will not take away our temptations but He will give us strength to conquer them.’

Here and now in whatever is our wilderness, He will be our Bread from heaven.  He will satisfy our every need.
