Eph. 2.4, 5:  His great love wherewith He loved us, even when we were dead in sins.  

He loved us even when we were dead.

There is a Tamil poem which compares the love of the birds which fly away when the lake dries up with the love of the flowers which cleave to it even to the withering of death.  It is a picture of the love of the One who loved us even when we were dead, and for love of us gave Himself to the withering of death.

‘Are we eternal to one another?’  asks the Tamil proverb, and expects a sad negative.  Instead we can sing out an answer of triumph, for in eternal love we are eternal to one another.  Love is immortal:  Calvary leads to Easter Day.
